Welcome to London Overlooked and thank you for dropping in.
The blog is home to stories about the lesser-known people, places and peculiarities of London, with a bias towards the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Wandering the streets, reading old books and newspapers, and looking at census returns, we are inspired to bring to life the forgotten and the obscure. Along with unexpected tales of the great and the good, you will find celebrations of the lives of ordinary folk. The only qualification for inclusion in our blog is that something or somebody looked at in the right way is interesting, and maybe even unique.
We are two established Londoners with interests in historical and genealogical research, an in-depth knowledge of the libraries and archives of the capital, and a desire to share with one and all the sometimes arcane knowledge we have picked up along the way.
We are happy for you to use the written content of our blog for non-commercial purposes, but we would ask you to attribute any such material to www.london-overlooked.com.
